A last goodbye to Her Majesty…
As the country pays its last respects to our late monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we have enjoyed hearing your memories and thoughts.
Thousands of people have now signed our Book of Condolence in Manor Walks, from youngsters such as the pupils from Eastlea School seen here to Grace who met Her Majesty in Nigeria and now lives here. Grace says she read about the Queen as a child and since living in the UK saw the great work she did.
We received a photo from Melanie who says “I’m a resident in Cramlington and a veteran of the Royal Navy, I was fortunate enough to meet and dine with the Queen and Prince Philip to celebrate the anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar. We had a pink champagne reception followed by an amazing meal, which I still have the menu etc for….
And the photo taken of me meeting the queen as she came to say hello to everyone!”
Thanks for sharing with us Melanie – what wonderful memories.
Many Cramlington residents recall the day she visited the new T. A. Centre and opened Concordia.
Jane Hardy sent us her rather special royal memory from that day in 1977 . She was chosen to present a bouquet to Her Majesty and says “It’s the only photograph I have of that special day. My parents were so proud, bless them. What a day it was!” She adds “Also here’s a photograph of my mother Kitty (McGowan) Hardy, on Silver Jubilee day, when she took over the ice cream van! Our fantastic street party was held on Alston Avenue, East Cramlington. Everyone was there. Happy days!”
If you have special memories of The Queen we would love to hear them too…
