Blaze your own career trail and become an apprentice at Northumberland County Council.

August 4, 2020

Applications are now open for the Council’s apprenticeship scheme, with opportunities in horticulture, customer service, business administration, highways maintenance and software development – there’s something whether you are more hands-on, a people person or more technically minded.

Kelly Angus, Executive Director for HR and OD said: “We are committed to offering a range of opportunities at the Council, and the apprenticeship scheme lends itself to supporting our diverse workforce needs.

“We are extremely proud to be an apprentice employer, so whether you are starting out in a career, or looking for a new one, the apprenticeship scheme is open to you! We welcome your application.”

There are a range of benefits in opting for an apprenticeship programme; you can earn whilst you learn, receive recognised qualifications, gain your own independence, get the support you need, improve your employability and take advantage of a range of benefits.

The Council’s apprenticeship programme for anyone aged 16 or over offers the chance for people to work in a role which will give them variation, and a good knowledge base for their chosen career path, as well as a learning programme to provide them with a qualification they can use to further their skills and themselves.

Councillor Wayne Daley, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Children’s Services said: “Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to start their careers, and give any aspirations they have a boost.

“Whilst not solely for the younger generation, more young people are turning to apprenticeships nowadays in order to continue their learning, but also to get that first hand experience in the working world.”

There are currently 18 apprenticeships to begin in September, with applications being taken now.

Online recruitment events are running on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th August.
