Community Chest grant for remembrance garden

A Community Chest grant from Cramlington Town Council has enabled the St Nicholas Churchyard Renewal Group to refurbish the Remembrance Garden within the church grounds.

The Remembrance Garden is a fenced area alongside a footpath in the churchyard and members of the voluntary group cut the grass and maintain the adjacent flower beds and shrubs, however the fence itself had fallen into a state of disrepair.

The group applied to the Community Chest to replace the fence and therefore enhance the appearance of the area.

John and Lorrie Sherrard from the group are seen at the Garden of Remembrance while the new fencing is put in place.

Cramlington Town Council provides grants to voluntary community groups and organisations that benefit, support and improve the lives of Cramlington residents.

Applications are considered at a meeting of the Community and Youth Committee, and will be limited to 75% of the full cost, up to a maximum of £750.

The Council supports projects or initiatives that will directly benefit the local community or environment and develop the skills of community members or groups.
