Community shows support following play park arson attack.
Cramlington Town Councillors and Northumbria Police have been greatly encouraged by messages of support and assistance from the local community following the fire at Seven Oaks Park.
Council chairman John Collins said ‘It is obvious that local residents are as upset by the damage to the park as we are. The council tries to work in partnership with the community and we rely upon locals to be vigilant. If they see any suspicious activity I would urge them to please report it immediately – the reaction to the fire confirms my belief that most residents care greatly about their local environment and appreciate the facilities that the council strives to provide.’
Councillor Pat Heard reiterated this saying ‘ It’s just the latest in a series of acts of vandalism, and would ask that if anyone knows who was responsible for the arson attack or any of the other recent problems, please contact the police or the council.’
Councillor Mark Swinburn said ‘The strength of emotion and support shown by people has taken me quite by surprise. We are making every effort to work with our partners to assess the damage to the equipment and the affected specialist play base, so that we can try and resolve the issues and bring the area back to full operational activity for the children as soon as possible.’
Tonight the police posted this Tweet: #Cramlington Neighbourhood Team are currently investigating an Arson attack at the Seven Oaks children’s play park.
