Inspectors commend Northumberland Fire Service for responding effectively to the COVID-19 pandemic

Northumberland Fire and Rescue has adapted and responded effectively to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an independent review by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services. Chief Fire Officer Paul Hedley said: “I welcome this report from HMICFRS which reflects how we have responded to the challenges of the pandemic and how we adapted the way we work to maintain our full range of emergency response and risk critical functions.

Postal voting to be promoted ahead of May’s local elections

Local council elections, which will include all 12 seats on Cramlington Town Council, are scheduled for May 6th 2021. Because of the Coronavirus pandemic they may be postponed but at present no decision has been made by the Government. If elections do go ahead they will be managed by Northumberland County Council Returning Officer Mark Crawford who is promoting postal votes as a safe way of voting.

Learning and wellbeing support for children and young people

Northumberland’s schools already have in place some excellent remote learning programmes and support, but with parents and carers being asked to work from home if they can, and educate their children from home if they can, the team have worked to further support children, young people and schools.

The leader of Northumberland County Council is urging people to “do the right thing” during the current national lockdown as the county’s countryside and coastal hotspots and villages are still seeing a large influx of visitors, especially at weekends.
