Council asks for help to tackle vandalism
Cramlington Town Council is asking members of the public to be their extra eyes and ears as they deal with a recent spate of vandalism.
Numerous incidents were revealed when the council carried out its weekly inspections of play areas as well as receiving reports of graffiti at bus shelters and newly planted trees being damaged.
The Council’s Operations and Facilities manager Daryl Wood said: “I ask any residents who are witnesses to any ongoing vandalism to ring the police on 101 or to phone the council as soon as possible.”
“Their own safety is paramount, but it would be appreciated if they reported any incidents they see. We all want Cramlington to be the best place to live – don’t we?”
“Yet again the council is using its resources to repair the play equipment and cover up the graffiti. It is a shame that the mindless actions of a minority spoil the facilities that are used by everybody.”
As well as removing the vandalism from view the council will be using CCTV to monitor areas where graffiti is a problem and action will be taken against anyone seen to be causing criminal damage.
