Council asks for investment for Cramlington’s cycle ways
“Cramlington needs investment into its cycle and walkways” that is the message delivered to Northumberland County Council through a submission to the Local Transport Plan by Cramlington Town Council.
Miles of cycle ways were originally built into the town when it started to grow from 1965 and as these routes have increased the town council has now called for funding to be made available to improve cycle way surfaces and markings which have deteriorated over many years.
Recently the town council has led on a significant signposting through the Cramlington Tubeway Map which shows how easy it is to get around the town on foot or bike.
Cllr Wayne Daley said “As the second biggest town in Northumberland with the first planned walking and cycling network, Cramlington is ready made to be a showcase for the rest of the UK to see how a town can get fit, reduce emissions and make safe access around the town easy. It is common sense to invest in resurfacing our worn out cycle ways and refresh the markings which previously showed the demarcation between pedestrians and cyclists. As a cyclist I am delighted the town council is calling on the County Council to invest in the network we have which is and should be the envy of the rest of Northumberland”
