Council funds free foraging workshops at Coronation Park
Cramlington Town Council is funding two free foraging workshops at Coronation Park this autumn, led by The Cramlington Forager, Gemma Gee. The council hopes the sessions will encourage people to get outdoors, connect with nature and discover what a great community space Coronation Park and its dementia garden have to offer.
Wild Herbs For Health: A Foraging Workshop
Sunday 6 September, 10:00 – 11:00
A beginner’s guide to the wild herbs growing all around us and how they can support health and wellbeing. Attendees will learn to identify around 6 to 10 common wild herbs, how to forage safely and within the law, and how to dry, prepare and store their own herbal remedies. No experience necessary, this workshop is designed for complete beginners.
Wild Garlic Planting Workshop
Saturday 3 October, 14:00 – 15:00
Wild garlic is one of spring’s most popular foraged herbs and surprisingly easy to grow at home. This hands-on session covers how to identify wild garlic safely, how to spot toxic lookalikes, and how to cultivate it in a garden or allotment. Every attendee will plant their own pot of wild garlic to take home and nurture, ready to harvest next spring.
Both workshops take place at Coronation Park (the old Parkside School field), Cramlington NE23 1DN. The council encourages residents to make the most of the park’s green space, including its popular dementia garden, while learning a new outdoor skill.
Places are limited, so early booking is recommended.
