Councillors thank residents for their response after mess is left following outdoor party
Cramlington Town Councillors have spoken of their disappointment following an incident where a gathering of young people resulted in broken glass and and debris being scattered on popular field – and they have also praised members of the local community who bagged up the rubbish over the weekend.
As well as rubbish and broken glass being left at the site in the field behind Station Road, picnic chairs had been abandoned and an area of earth was scorched from a fire.
Cramlington West Councillor Barry Flux said “It is very disappointing when we see behaviour like this and it also suggests people are not obeying the social distancing guidelines. It is totally unnecessary and extremely selfish.”
“We have been inundated with messages from residents, which shows how much people care about Cramlington. I would like to thank those people who reported it to us and those who took the time to clear this up on Sunday.”
Fellow West ward Councillor Pat Heard said “Cramlington is a clean and green town and we want it to stay this way. We take great pride in our open spaces. When rubbish is left it means the council has to deal with this, rather than improvement schemes.”
“The Town Council welcomes residents reporting incidents and while council staff cannot be on duty 24/7 they will respond as soon as possible.
People can also report incidents to their local councillors.”
