Cramlington Community Choir Awarded Funds for Musical Growth
Cramlington Community Choir has received Community Chest funding to purchase sheet music and rehearsal tracks.
The choir regularly performs at Manor Walks, care homes, schools, churches, and parks throughout Cramlington. “Research shows that group singing supports emotional wellbeing, enhances lung function, reduces stress, and builds a sense of belonging,” explained Choir Leader Jill Brown. “Our members consistently report improved mood, confidence, and reduced social isolation through their participation.” The choir’s community impact extends beyond regular performances. Jill also runs a free Singing for Wellbeing group in partnership with Northumberland Recovery College, supporting positive mental health through music.
Looking ahead to 2025, the choir will once again host a free community event for World Singing Day on Saturday 18th October at St Nicholas Church, inviting all Cramlington residents to experience the unifying power of music together.
Councillor Mark Morris, representing the Community and Youth Committee, said: “Music has incredible power to bring people together and support wellbeing. We’re proud to support an organisation that makes music accessible to everyone while creating such positive impacts throughout our community.”
The funding will ensure the choir can continue offering engaging repertoire and professional-quality rehearsal materials to support members of all musical backgrounds and learning styles.
The Community Chest welcomes applications from local groups and organisations. Visit Cramlington Town Council’s website HERE to learn more about funding opportunities and how to apply.
