Cramlington woman awarded BEM in Queen’s Birthday Honours
A Cramlington woman has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday 2022 Honours list.
Maggie Mitford was awarded the B.E.M for her services to Education.
She was Headteacher at Brandling Primary School in Gateshead before her retirement in 2009. While at Brandling Maggie had the privilege of working with schools across the country and abroad through her roles as a National Leader Of Education and facilitator for The British Council.
Since retirement Maggie’s passion for education has continued. She has been a Governor in three schools in three different authorities, taught English to Syrian Refugees in Cramlington, leads activities in both Ashington and District and Cramlington and District u3a’s and has helped set up the new Northumberland Parent Carer Forum of which she is a steering group member.
Maggie said: “I am very honoured to receive this award. During my 52 years in education I could not have achieved what I have without the many hard working inspirational colleagues, brilliant families and my own family and friends around me. My thanks must go to them all”.
