Great response to Cramlington volunteering events
As part on National Volunteers Week there are three Volunteer Info Sessions being held in Cramlington this week and the response to the first two has been fantastic.
The events are a joint initiative from Cramlington Town Council, Northumberland Communities Together and Northumberland Community Voluntary Action.
A drop-in event was held at the newly opened The Hub at Cramlington for people to find out more about how to get involved in volunteering. Organisations attending included St John Ambulance, Bright Red, Cramlington Rockets, Cramlington Girl Guides, Northumberland Bridge Project, Northern Butterflies and Blyth CVA.
Steve Beaty, from Cramlington Rockets said “It was a pleasure to meet other organisations that also value their volunteers – we have over thirty volunteers who are key to our success.”
Among those attending was Cramlington Town Mayor Loraine De Simone who said “Throughout these past difficult months, volunteers have been at the heart of the terrific community response that has been seen across Cramlington. These events not only showcase the work done by volunteers but offer information to people who are considering how they too can become a volunteer. It’s been an eye-opener to discover just how many volunteers there are in our town – well done to each and every one of them!”
There was also an evening Volunteer Info Session at Beacon Hill Community Centre where Maggie Martin, Cramlington Town Council’s Community and Youth Manager was bowled over by the response. “The evening session had a real buzz about it – it was heartening to see so many people wanting to know how they could become a volunteer. It was also an opportunity for organisations who rely on volunteers to promote their cause. The work done by volunteers is invaluable and National Volunteers Week is an opportunity to celebrate all that they do.”
