IN PICTURES: An evening of celebration for Cramlington’s youth.

January 7, 2020

Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project held an evening of celebration which highlighted the achievements of the youngsters they work with.

The night was hosted by young people from the disability group and young carers group and a range of performances from young people from the local area entertained the audience.

Music and film played a key role in the celebrations and was a great example of the working partnership with Helix Arts who use song writing, musical performances and creative film making to create opportunities for people to participate in arts activity.

A series of presentations focused on those who had achieved a range of awards including bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, Bronze Arts Award, Discover and Explore awards through the John Muir Trust, an environmental organisation which helps young people care and enjoy wild places.

Certificates were presented by Cramlington’s Town Mayor, Loraine De Simone and Ruth Collins, NE operations manager for the the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.

Staff were also presented with their Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, Youth Work Level 3 certificates and Katie Appleyard achieved her Gold Arts Award.

Ruth Collins said “Thank you for all you do for the young people at CVYP.  My husband was so impressed – and said he can now see why we all do what we do! It was a great night – so many smiley faces – just wonderful”.

Town Mayor Loraine De Simone congratulated the event organisers adding ” Well done to all these young people – I hope they enjoyed the awards evening which rightly highlighted their achievements – they are a credit to the town.

It was also a proud evening for the parents and carers who attended with one stating “I was bursting with pride, not only have I seen my son part hosting and really come out of his shell, but to see the work they have done is fantastic”.

Another added “I loved watching the journey, they had done so much which I didn’t know about, my son’s confidence has really improved and he has made friends. Thank you so much”
