Increase in fly-tipping stretching council resources
During the continued lock down there has been a noticeable increase in fly-tipping which has placed further strain on the Cramlington environmental maintenance team.
The actions of thoughtless individuals not only creates an eyesore but can lead to real health hazards.
Although bulky household waste collection has been suspended for the time being, the service will resume as soon as possible and until then residents are asked to store bulky items at home. Civic amenity sites have also been closed following a decision by the County Council’s provider Suez and again the co-operation and understanding of residents is needed.
The team responsible for removing fly-tipping continues to operate and will respond to calls from the public.
If you are aware of fly-tipping please report it to either the town or county council and it will be removed.
And should you see fly-tipping actually taking place please take any details of the people responsible (such as car registration numbers or a photograph on your phone) but for your own safety do not tackle them directly. Report the details to the town council and our environmental enforcement officer will track them down and look to prosecute the culprits. Fly-tipping carries a very substantial fine.
