Investment plans in place for Concordia building
Improvement work is to be carried out on Concordia Leisure Centre in Cramlington, which includes repairing damage caused by Storm Arwen.
Extensive checks were made of the building on Manor Walks to assess the centre and some immediate storm damage to skylights and roofing has already been repaired.
A project has also been initiated to replace the glazing and seals on the front of the building and replace the relevant roof section above, subject to a specialist roof inspection. This work will go out to tender and is expected to take place in mid-summer 2022.
Planting work will also take place to improve the general appearance of the front of the centre and planning permission will soon be sought for some new and improved external signage.
Northumberland County Councilor Jeff Watson, cabinet member with responsibility for Health Lives said: “In 2019 we carried out an upgrade and refurbishment of the swimming pool and changing areas in Concordia which have proved enormously popular.
“Over next year we will be investing in the external fabric of the building to smarten up its appearance and to make sure it is sound and secure.”
