Meet Cramlington’s new Town Mayor
To mark the 10th anniversary of its establishment the Town Council decided to create the position of Town Mayor. This was agreed at the Council’s meeting on Thursday 5th September and Cllr Loraine De Simone was installed as the first Town Mayor of Cramlington.
Loraine has lived in the Town for 17 years and has served as a councillor for the Village ward since 2017.
She is no stranger to public service as her career included many years as a teacher and then management roles within the education sector.
Caring about Cramlington and the residents who live here are two of the reasons given by the new Town Mayor when explaining why she is proud to accept the role.
Loraine says “Throughout my working life I have had roles that meant working closely with people, meeting with them, listening to them and helping them. These attributes echo those that are required to be an effective councillor.”
“I am proud to live in Cramlington and, along with my fellow councillors, we will strive to make it the best place it can be.”
“It’s so encouraging when the town pulls together with a common aim. Just think of all the members of the community who have worked together to help keep it a clean and tidy place by organising litter picks etc. What a great example of town spirit”
“As a grandmother of four I appreciate the value of having first-rate play facilities and well maintained open spaces for children and residents of all ages to enjoy.”
“I know how much work the council does behind the scenes to look after our local environment and to provide local services. Since 2009 the town council has introduced and overseen major improvements in Cramlington. It’s councillors are local people who know and understand the community and what its priorities are. And I think we’ve delivered and responded to what the community wants. There’s a great future for Cramlington and we should all be proud of what our town has achieved.”
“I am looking forward to my new role representing Cramlington. I know what a great place it is to live in, that we can offer excellent educational provision and that there is a generous community spirit too.”
