Military honours for Cramlington residents

April 6, 2022

Cramlington Town Mayor, Councillor Loraine De Simone, attended a Reserve Forces and Cadet Association ceremony at Fox Barracks where she saw two of the town’s residents receive prestigious honours from Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland, Jane, Duchess of Northumberland.

Sergeant Major Instructor Peter Besford,  of Northumbria Army Cadet Force, was presented with a Certificate for Meritorious Conduct which recognises exceptional service.

Cadet Flight Sergeant India Piriz, RAFAC, No, 242(Cramlington) Squadron, Royal Air Force Cadets, was named as one of two Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for 2022. The cadets assist the Lord Lieutenant with royal visits and other duties throughout the year and are selected because of their outstanding service.

Cllr De Simone commented: “It was a privilege to attend the ceremony and hear about the commitment and achievements of those who were presented with awards. Being a cadet in any of our Armed Forces is a great activity for younger people and the experiences they gain have a positive impact on them for the rest of their lives. It was also a pleasure to see acknowledgement of the dedication and hard work from members of the Reserve Forces.”

The North of England Reserve Forces and Cadet Association provides a link between the military forces and the local community.
