More CCTV to be installed in Cramlington

September 8, 2021

At Cramlington Town Council’s September meeting it was agreed to install four more CCTV cameras across the town, at a cost of £20,000.

The decision was also taken to relocate the existing camera in the village to a more central location to cover a wider area.

The locations for the cameras were identified following consultation with Northumbria Police and councillors.

New cameras will be installed at Alexandra Park, by Horton Park gym equipment, Chichester (adjacent to the playground in Nelson Village) and at the cycle track adjacent to Nairn Road.

It will bring the total number of Cramlington Town Council CCTV to seventeen. They are already situated in every ward across the town at: Horton Park Playground, Clifton Road Playground, Seven Oaks Playground, Seven Oaks (MUGA),  Bassington Manor, Cramlington Village – Surveyors House,  Cramlington Village – Entrance adjacent Weatherspoons, Alexandra Skate Park, the  Sensory Garden,  Eastfield Playing Fields – East,   Eastfield Playing Fields – West, Brockwell Centre and Dewley Shops.

The Town Council consulted Northumberland County Council about installing CCTV at the underpasses but this was dismissed as the maximum height available would have made the cameras open to vandalism and theft.

Councillor Mark Swinburn is chairman of the Cramlington Town Council Development and Strategic Management committee which recommended the further provision of CCTV to the full council.

He said “As well as deterring crime and antisocial behaviour in Cramlington, these cameras will be invaluable in protecting people and property and I hope the installation will give our residents reassurance.
