New era for tourism in Northumberland set to be launched at high profile business engagement event

July 27, 2020

Tourism businesses across Northumberland are being invited to join national industry leaders for a business engagement event on Thursday 30 July, where a new Visit Northumberland brand and strategy will be launched to aid the County’s recovery.

Northumberland County Council and Northumberland Tourism, under the charge of Visit Northumberland, have joined forces to bring leading experts together from the tourism industry to set the scene for an exciting new future for tourism in the county.

The event aims to bring businesses together with industry leaders to hear first hand how the newly formed Visit Northumberland brand can offer support to businesses for the industry’s recovery after Covid-19, and explore opportunities for a prosperous future.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear from industry leaders including Patricia Yates from VisitBritain, Bernard Donoghue from the Association of Leisure and Visitor Attractions, and from Tourism Alliance Director, Kurt Janson.

The event will also showcase the ‘big reveal’ of a refreshed Visit Northumberland brand, as well as offering participants a first look at the new digital platform due to be launched soon to the public. This new digital solution has been developed for Northumberland businesses and attractions to incorporate enhanced listings and an additional booking offer, together with a first class digital experience for visitors and residents, all aimed at showcasing the endless experiences that Northumberland has to offer both for local, regional, national and international visitors.

Cllr Cath Homer, Cabinet member for Arts, Culture, Leisure and Heritage added: “We are absolutely committed to accelerating support for the tourism industry, and this event is the start of a very exciting future showcasing what businesses can expect from the newly revitalised Visit Northumberland offer.

“It’s really important that all tourism businesses have access to and can take full advantage of the support and opportunities on offer, to help them recover and prepare for the future so that Northumberland can quite rightly continue to be a destination of choice both within the UK and overseas.”

Peter Jackson, Leader of Northumberland County Council said: “The event, and indeed the new partnership arrangements between the County Council and Northumberland Tourism, heralds a new era and accelerated vision for tourism in Northumberland.

“The County Council and Northumberland Tourism have worked closely with award winning North East-based advertising and marketing agency Drummond Central, to develop a world-class digital offer for Northumberland to support the recovery of this crucial industry and key sector of employment for many residents.

“Whilst this work commenced prior to the pandemic, it is fantastic that it is now ready and is well placed to support the county’s recovery strategy and to enable Northumberland to bring a game changer in terms of support for our tourism businesses and in turn the visitor economy.

“The time is now for Visit Northumberland to be supporting tourism businesses throughout the county, and we are delighted that we are able to bring forward this exciting initiative, brand and product to support the industry when they need it most.”

This free webinar is available to tourism businesses small and large across Northumberland.

Northumberland County Council expect this event to sell out given the profile of the leading experts involved and the package of support to be announced. To secure your place, register here now.
