New MUGA nearing completion
Work on a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) at Seven Oaks Park is nearing completion. The MUGA costing over £50,000 has been provided by the Town Council who successfully bid for grants to provide a facility for older children which will complement the recently refurbished children’s playground in the park.
County Councillor Mark Swinburn also made a contribution to the project using his county councillor small schemes allowance.
Mark said; “I am very pleased that we are able to provide more facilities for this area. The MUGA is a free facility and will primarily cater for young teenagers and provide a venue for them to play a variety of ball games and to simply “hang out” with friends”.
The scheme was welcomed by the Police and agencies working with young people.
The Town Council’s objective is to provide facilities to make Cramlington “a child friendly town” and to encourage higher levels of physical activity amongst young people. Councillor Loraine De Simone, the Town Mayor, said; “Adding these facilities supports our focus on Cramlington being a ‘child-friendly’ town and we hope that everyone will enjoy using the new MUGA”
CCTV will be installed to monitor the MUGA to deter anti-social behaviour and the facility will be open to youngsters ad soon as marking out and finishing touches have been completed.
