Northumberland tops list of nominees at this year’s North East England Tourism Awards

October 25, 2018

Northumberland has topped the list of nominees at this year’s North East England Tourism Awards.

The shortlist for the prestigious industry awards were announced this week with 35 of the 57 nominees coming from the county.

Many of the categories are dominated by Northumberland businesses or attractions, including Boutique Guest Accommodation of the Year, Self-catering Holiday Provider of the Year, Tourism Pub of the Year and Dog Friendly Business of the Year where all those shortlisted are from the county.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday November 21 at the Civic Centre in Newcastle.

In 2019 the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence will celebrate 30 years of the awards and success in English tourism, with winners from the North East England Tourism Awards highlighted as part of this.

Cllr Cath Homer, cabinet member for Culture, Arts and Leisure at Northumberland County Council said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for Northumberland and demonstrates the quality and breadth of what is on offer in our county.

“Tourism is a key economic driver for the county with over 10 million visitors coming to Northumberland in 2017.

“These awards showcase and celebrate those businesses who help to make Northumberland an unforgettable place to live, work and visit and we wish of all of those nominated the best of luck in next month’s awards.”

A number of the businesses shortlisted are also members of the Produced in Northumberland initiative, led by the council, which highlights businesses which are producing or using local produce. To find out more about Produced in Northumberland go to www.producedin.northumberland.gov.uk
