Rescue dogs to be stars of 2020 charity calendar
A charity calendar featuring dogs rescued in Northumberland is now for sale with all proceeds going to four local animal charities.
The calendar features twelve dogs that have been rescued by Northumberland County Council’s animal welfare team and partner charities. Each dog has their back story printed alongside their photograph.
The printing of the calendar has been funded by the fines collected for dog fouling offences in Northumberland. All the proceeds will go to four local animal charities: SHAK, Alexa’s Animals, BARK and The Dog’s Trust.
One of the rescued dogs is Nym the Husky cross, who was found straying in Northumberland. It was discovered that he had never had a safe or secure home, and had been passed from pillar to post his whole life. He was placed with Alexa’s Animals for some much needed TLC and now has a fabulous loving home.
Another chosen dog was Sheba, the 12 year old German Shepherd, who was found abandoned in Ashington. She was in such poor condition that she could barely stand up. She was placed with SHAK for rehabilitation, and has now found her forever home.
Cllr Glen Sanderson, Cabinet Member for Environment and Local Services, said: “The Council’s Public Protection Service continuously highlight and address animal welfare issues, as well as promoting responsible dog ownership. The majority of dog owners recognise the need to provide the correct environment to ensure the welfare of their dog, but unfortunately there are those who don’t.
“I am very proud of our frontline men and women who work so hard to help promote good dog ownership, and I am very pleased to introduce the 2020 Northumberland Rescued Dogs Calendar.”
Phil Soderquest, Head of Housing and Public Protection at Northumberland County Council said: “The council produces this calendar each year and it’s a great way for us and members of the public to support the local animal charities we work closely with and help them fund their fantastic work.”
The calendars are available for a minimum donation of £3.99 from council information centres, through the Council website or by contacting the animal welfare team on 0345 600 6400.
