Returning to School – Resources available to help you and your family prepare.
Resources have been made available to children and their families in preparation for a September school return thanks to Northumberland County Council and partner organisations.
Many children and their parents preparing to return to school for the new year will be feeling anxious about how things will look, and how their school day and routine will work. The resources being shared will hopefully ease some of these anxieties, and help families move forward in the transition.
Councillor Wayne Daley, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “We absolutely appreciate the worries parents and carers are facing at this time, and this is exactly why our teams have worked closely with partner organisations to offer resources that can help.
“The mental health and wellbeing of our children and families is a huge priority for us, and it is important we act upon supporting them through this.”
In September all children are expected to return to school with the Government reviewing the COVID19 situation and how this affects education on a regular basis.
The structure and routine of school is beneficial in creating a sense of safety and security for children and young people, and it is important to remember that schools will be following all guidance to make their settings safe for their return.
Cath McEvoy-Carr, Executive Director with responsibility for Adult and Children’s Services said: “Our schools are committed to providing a safe and secure space for our children. They have worked tirelessly during the pandemic to safeguard the children in their care, whilst also working with those at home.
“Now that we move into a new phase, we recognise the difficulties parents are facing for the new term, and in turn the challenges and questions children are facing with it. It is important to remember that how you feel about something can also affect how your children feel so it is important to think about what is causing you concern. The padlet has been designed to help you prepare for returning, answer some of those questions and ease anxieties”.
Many children will be looking forward to seeing their friends, their teachers and support staff, and getting back into a routine of learning. These resources are designed to help you, and help you support your child ahead of this time.
