Royal British Legion says thank you…
The Cramlington Branch of the Royal British Legion has thanked Cramlington Town Council for their
work during the preparation of the town ahead of the annual Service of Remembrance.
As a sign of their appreciation, branch chairman Joe Wallace presented the Town Mayor of
Cramlington, Loraine De Simone, with a framed letter from Her Majesty the Queen and a limited-
edition commemorative badge which marks 100 years since the formation of the Legion.
Loraine said: “Cramlington Town Council considers it an honour to assist with the Service of
Remembrance. It is such an important event for our residents I am always left feeling humble and
proud after attending the ceremony. We are delighted to be associated with the Cramlington Branch
of the RBL and thank them for this token of appreciation.”
Branch chairman Joe Wallace said: “The absence of any service and parade last year was felt by
everyone throughout the town and it was wonderful to see the village filled again. The Town Council
ensured that the village looked its best on Remembrance Sunday and beforehand by erecting the
giant lamp post poppies.”
“A big thank you also to Manor Walks for accommodating us during the Poppy Appeal. It was nice to
be back in the centre, meeting members of the public again.”
“Thanks must also be given the Cramlington WI and Knit and Natter group for the knitted poppies
around the village and on lamp posts. You have done our town proud! Not forgetting the team from
Saint Nicholas’ Church and Sue Younger from the Salvation Army for taking the religious services and
reminding us of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and the debt owed that can never be repaid.”
“A big well done should go to all of our local youth groups who were on parade. Everyone was very
smart and well turned out and I am sure all the parents were very proud. So, we thank all of the
detachment commanders and group leaders.”
“The Branch would also like to say thanks to all of the local shops and businesses in and around the
town for taking in donations through the sale of poppies from their customers. Last and by no means
least, thank you to all the residents of Cramlington who have made donations towards the Poppy
Appeal. Without your generosity and support, the Royal British Legion would not be able to support
our veterans.”
