Running girls clean up!

February 7, 2019

A ladies-only running club held a litter-pick in Cramlington – and reassuringly they didn’t find too much litter to pick!

The ‘These Girls Can Run’ group was founded four years ago by Kim Scott and as one of their community initiatives the women decided to collect litter from the streets they run on twice a week and this also tied in with their support of the RunAndTalk campaign.

The Cramlington running group split up into teams to collect the litter but together the amount found barely filled one bin bag.

The runners got together four years ago and there are now twelve ‘These Girls Can Run’ groups across the northeast with over 7000 members.

The RunAndTalk campaign they are supporting aims to  improve mental health through running and is supported by Mind, the mental health charity.

The Cramlington group meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings and is aimed at beginners and those wanting to become more active, and they undertake 5k runs.

If you are interested in joining the group they can be found on Facebook and contacted by email on thesegirlscanrun@gmail.com
