Skatepark refurbishment: new start date

Work on the new skatepark in Alexandra Park activity zone is now due to begin on Monday 21 September.

Following demolition of the old skatepark, a further ground survey was carried out. This identified drainage issues on the site, meaning the original drainage plans had to be redesigned. Contractor Wheelscape Ltd has now finalised a new drainage solution, and work can go ahead.

We understand this delay is frustrating for residents who are keen to use the skatepark, and we thank you for your patience.

Why the skatepark is being refurbished

The current skatepark is reaching the end of its life, and safety concerns have started to emerge. Replacing it is more cost effective in the long run than continuing repairs. The new design will also include separate areas for beginner and more advanced skaters, making the space more welcoming and inclusive for everyone.
