Take a seat on Cramlington’s very own royal chair
Cramlington’s very own royal throne has taken residence in Manor Walks Shopping Centre, offering passers-by the opportunity to grab a selfie marking the upcoming coronation of King Charles III.
Cramlington Town Council sourced a grant from Northumberland’s Coronation Community Fund and then asked The Set Guise to create the seat which bears an uncanny resemblance to the Coronation Chair, built in 1296, which will be used in Saturday’s historic ceremony.
Bringing the throne up-to-date, there is a nearby collection of props including crowns, robes, masks and even a sceptre, so members of the public can take selfies with their friends and families.
Cramlington Mayor Loraine De Simone said “It’s been great seeing families having fun sitting in the throne and taking pictures to make their own Coronation memories. Those memories can be shared by using #NlandCoro on social media. After the Coronation, the throne will be lent to a local children’s organisations to use as a story chair.”
