The Queen and I – memories of a special day in Cramlington
Many thanks to Jane Hardy for sending us her rather special royal memory!
Jane was chosen to present a bouquet to Her Majesty, The Queen, when she opened Concordia in 1977.
She says “It’s the only photograph I have of that special day. My parents were so proud, bless them. What a day it was!”
She adds “Also here’s a photograph of my mother Kitty (McGowan) Hardy, on Silver Jubilee day, when she took over the ice cream van! Our fantastic street party was held on Alston Avenue, East Cramlington. Everyone was there. Happy days!”
As we look forward to Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Cramlington Town Council would love to see your memories or photographs from the past 70 years.
Have you taken photographs of The Queen, or any member of the royal family?
Did you have a party at school or in the street to celebrate a royal event?
If so, we would love to hear about your royal recollections, and we will share them as part of Cramlington’s Jubilee celebrations between June 2-5.
Please send your memories to jane@cramlingtontowncouncil.gov.uk
