Town council budget consultation – tell us your views
We are asking Cramlington residents for their views on the Town Council’s proposed budget for next year.
Cramlington Town Council is responsible for a range of local community and environmental services including parks and playgrounds, allotments, litter and street cleaning, grass cutting, flower beds and supporting the youth and community of Cramlington.
The Town Council has proposed that its element of the council tax for next year should remain at its current level of £113.10p a year for a Band D property. As most properties in Cramlington fall within Bands A-C, most residents will pay less than this figure.
This decision reflects the Town Council’s concern over the financial impact of the COVID-19 crisis. But whilst we will not be asking for an increase in our precept, we are confident that we can make savings in a number of area which will provide scope for new projects and allow us to maintain our most essential services at their current level.
Over the last year we have redirected our resources towards helping our community through the pandemic. This has included supporting community groups, providing activities for young people and most recently by issuing free school meals vouchers when the Government failed to provide this support. We have also provided placements for apprentices.
As part of our push to make savings we will be bringing major elements of our grounds maintenance in-house. This means that we have reserved significant funds to meet unforeseen demands on our services and to plan for new projects as we come out of the current crisis. We are already committed to the replacement of the playground at Alexandra Park and to an outdoor gym at Horton Park and we will be updating all our playgrounds soon.
Full details of our proposals can be seen on the attached report:
