Town Council Opens Consultation on 2026/27 Budget

Cramlington Town Council is responsible for a range of local community and environmental services, we strive to improve quality of life and community well-being in Cramlington and provide wide support to voluntary, community and charitable groups.

Cramlington residents are being asked to give their views on the Town Council’s draft budget for 2026/27, which includes several major community projects. To help fund these new projects and to meet inflation related cost increases, a 5% rise in the council precept is proposed.

The budget outlines plans for a number of major new projects including:

• Refurbishment of the skate park and a new pump track at Alexandra Park
• Refurbishment of Mayfield Community Centre
• Development of West Meadows Community Park, and the next phase of Coronation Park next to the Dementia Garden; this will include the planting of a community orchard and the provision of a bio-diversity garden.
• Improvements to Seven Oaks Park and the East Hartford playgrounds
• Additional CCTV to cover ASB hotspots and funding for additional Police patrols
• Increasing the provision of holiday activities

Together the cost of these schemes will be nearly £1,000,000. Many of the projects outlined, however, will be funded by grants that the town council can access and expenditure will not be borne by local taxpayers. Nevertheless,  inflation pressures and increased demand for services means a precept rise is necessary. The town council has set strict limits on what it considers to be an acceptable increase in the precept and proposes a 5% increase which is broadly in line with inflation and wage increases. This will add £6.25 a year, or roughly 50p a month, to a Band D household’s bill, increasing from £126 a year to £132.25. But most households in Cramlington are in Bands A-C and these households will consequently pay less than this.
