UK Landlines Are Going Digital – Are You Ready?

Landline services across the UK are moving to digital technology by January 2027. 

Don’t worry, your landline is here to stay.

• Your phone number will stay the same
• 99% of existing handsets will still work
• Setup is simple, just plug your phone into your router

If you’re with BT, your service will be upgraded to Digital Voice, which means your calls will be made over a broadband connection instead of the old analogue network. You can call them on call 0330 1234 150 for assistance or find out more at: bt.com/digitalvoice

If you’re not with BT, contact your own landline provider to find out what changes apply to you and when.

Do you know someone with no broadband or who relies solely on their landline?
BT will offer a dedicated landline service for customers without broadband so they can continue using their phone as usual. If you know someone elderly or vulnerable who depends on their landline and may not use the internet, please share this information with them to make sure they’re aware of the changes and supported.

Do you use a healthcare alarm or telecare device?
It’s important to contact your phone provider to make sure your equipment will continue to work properly after the switch.
