VIDEO: Community allotment funding secures future plans
Two years ago Cramlington Town Council handed over an allotment to Northern Butterflies at Lanercost to create a community allotment, and now that they have secured funding from the National Lottery, the future of the community project, which aims to help people with their mental wellbeing, looks bright.
The group also run an art project in Manor Walks and next week Northern Butterflies are inviting the public along to find out more about the work that they do.
Maggie Martin, Community and Youth Manager at Cramlington Town Council said “In partnership with the council, and with huge support from their volunteers, Northern Butterflies have turned a once overgrown plot into a fabulous community allotment space. The community allotment now plays a vital role in connecting people, raising awareness of the environment, growing produce as well as providing opportunities for people to be outside, active and improve their all-round wellbeing. It has been fantastic not only to see the allotment start to take root but also the confidence and knowledge of the volunteers. ”
