VIDEO: Council backs bags of hope for blood cancer patients
Cramlington Town Council has given £500 from its Community Chest to a charity that supports blood cancer patients.
Town Mayor Loraine De Simone presented the money to Lisa Saxton, manager of the Bright Red Blood Cancer charity which strives to improve the lives and treatment of people with blood cancer across the north of England.
Bright Red has supported haematology treatment and research since 1988 and the region is now the second largest bone marrow transplant centre within the UK.
The donation from the council will be used to aid volunteers making Bags of Hope.
These will contain a blood cancer fact sheet, links to organisations that can offer support, activity kits and hand-made keepsakes from local art and craft groups.
