Cramlington Town Councillor Helen Welsh reveals the results of the #Love Cramlington 2020 Citizen of The Year Award
Our first runner-up is Brandon Lee.
Brandon became a young leader for the delivery of sessions run by Cramlington in the Community, a newly formed project offering a range of sport related activity for children and young people.
At just 15 year old, he accepted the challenges that the role brings when working with children and young people.
Brandon is hard working and focused and has grown in confidence in the sessions that he has participated in. He explains the tasks clearly, ensuring the children understand. His patience shines through as he spends time with any child who may not understand or who may get frustrated if the sport is not going their way.
Brandon is polite and helpful and his interaction with the parents and guardians has also been excellent.
He leads by example and is an excellent role model for the children he engages with as part of the project.
Our next runner-up is Kyle Morrison
During lockdown Kyle was an asset to local residents, helping with their shopping or medication and any other tasks he could assist with.
He has received praise for being such an amiable and honest young man, willing to think about the needs of others and offer practical help in any way he could.
His friendly cheery face has been such a positive influence for his local community – at a time when positivity is much needed and welcomed.
And the winner is…Ava Jayne Buck
We received over 20 nominations for Ava Jayne
Her Mum Gina said: during Covid my 7 year old little girl asked if she could drop flowers around our neighbourhood. I bought daffodils for her and she attached notes to them with mottos such as ‘kindness is free’ and ‘keep smiling’.
She walked around daily, dropping then at doorsteps.
I’m so proud of her. She made a lot of people smile and not feel alone.
Other comments included:
It made our day and put a smile on my family’s faces. Thank you Ava for keeping the faith during this sad time.
This type of act from a 7 year old child is outstanding, the community is proud of her, her act of kindness went a long way.
Putting a smile on people’s faces and a tear in their eyes, knowing there are young people who care about others.
Your flowers and messages of hope meant a great deal to many people.
Well done Ave Jayne, you are a worthy winner of the Cramlington Town Council #Love Cramlington 2020 Young Citizen Award.
