VIDEO: “Mum – there’s a bear in the street!”

“Mum – there’s a bear in the street!”

Not what you normally hear from children looking out of the window but as we all know these are far from ordinary times.
The appearance of the ‘Cramlington Bear’ is thanks to Burnside Avenue resident Amy Scorfield (pictured) who explains:
“Usually this street is really busy – people coming and going, children playing with their friends but it’s so quiet now because people are being really good about social distancing.
When I was clearing out some cupboards I came across the bear suit which gave me an idea and spurred me into action!
I messaged local parents to get their opinions and they thought it was a great idea. I then heard that a little girl was celebrating her birthday on Tuesday so decided to do it then.
It was just lovely to see the children smiling and hear them shouting “It’s a bear!”.
It gave me goosebumps and I have been overwhelmed by the messages of thanks.
I’ve since been asked to make another appearance by walking along the street and just waving to the children through their windows. It was such a simple thing to do – and a real pleasure.”
