Working together to provide an accessible allotment for disabled gardeners
Cramlington Town Council is working with Abilise Services, a Cramlington-based enabling service, to provide a communal allotment for people who are wheelchair bound, have a visual impairment, are living with dementia, have accessibility issues or rehabilitation needs.
Allotment gardening is a very rewarding pastime and can contribute greatly to the quality of people’s lives both mentally and physically.
The aim is to make the facility accessible to as many people as possible and the plot is located near the entrance to the site and will feature raised beds which are easier to access.
Lannercost Park has been selected for a pilot scheme with the hope of forming additional communal plots at other sites in the future.
