Cramlington Town Council will provide grants to community groups, voluntary organisations, local charities, Community Interest Companies and sports/recreational clubs to benefit, support and improve the lives of Cramlington residents. All applicants must be of a non-commercial nature, be Cramlington based or have a significant presence in the town.

The awards are aimed at supporting smaller local organisations. To ensure a fair distribution of available funds, grants will be limited to 80% of the full project cost, up to a maximum grant of £800 (based on a total project cost of £1,000).

The Town Council will support applications if they are:

• Projects or initiatives that will directly benefit the local community or environment.
• Projects that develop the skills of community members / groups
• Projects that promote networking and collaboration within the local and wider community.
• Hold no more than £10,000 unrestricted reserves. 

To ensure accountability for public funds, applicants must be able to demonstrate sound governance, and that they:

• Have a bank account in the name of the organisation with at least two signatories.
• Are Cramlington based or have a significant presence in the town.
• Have a written constitution / governing document.
• Provide annual accounts, approved within the last 18 months, which have been independently inspected.

The Town Council will not fund: 

• Salaries.
• Religious Organisations (unless for non-religious activities). 
• Activities of political organisations. 
• Events that have already occurred, equipment already purchased or work already started or completed. 
• Repayment of loans
• Cost of services, equipment or provision already purchased in anticipation of a grant. 
• Organisations that have a closed or restricted membership. 
• Fundraising and prize-giving.
• Services that fall under the legal and/or designated powers of statutory authorities.
• Repeat projects, events or applications from the previous year.

The Town Council will only consider one application from an organisation within any financial year, which runs from 1^stApril to 31^st March.

Applications must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the meeting of the Community and Youth Committee to be considered.  If an application is later than this deadline, it will automatically be held back to the following meeting.

There are six Community and Youth committee meetings per financial year.

Some meeting dates are subject to change, however a warning will be published on the Town Council’s website. Below is a timetable of meetings.

Completed application forms should be supported by the following information to confirm that the awards criteria are being met. Please send the supporting documents to joe@cramlingtontowncouncil.gov.uk or post them to the Council offices.

• A copy of the latest bank statement – this confirms that there is a separate bank account.
• A copy of the constitution or governing document. If this is available online, then a website link is sufficient.
• A copy of the latest annual accounts – if these show unrestricted reserves greater than £10,000, a full explanation should be provided.

Failure to provide all the above by the application deadline will result in the application not being submitted for committee approval and will be deferred to the following meeting upon receiving required documentation.

The Council reserves the right to request photos, a short monitoring report and copies of receipts evidencing how the money was spent. For all successful applicants the minimum expectations will be a press release on receipt of the grant.
